Concepts Beyond Karnan Tamil Language action Movie
Recently, I have watched a Tamil A language action movie called “Karnan” is directed by Mari Selvaraj. We can drawn a lot of incidents similar to the movie incidents in Indian history .the the story has explained the culture of the Tamil tribes /Indian tribes through the various animals, deities and symbols like faceless figures which represent the tribes pray the faceless and shapeless gods. As the tribes mostly associated with nature, so director used the nature as the power to represents the people and understand them.
The story is about caste violence and
story of oppressor and oppressed, while I am applying a lot of concepts like
Karl mark theory of Alienation can relate the Proletariat and bourgeoisie
concepts as oppressor and oppressed, false consciousness concept of Karl Marx.
In the story the main Character, Karnan was Educated and also got the Job in
the Army but I decide to emancipate and empower his village from the Slavery
and false consciousness, here we can quote Ambedkar, as he said “Educate,
Agitate, Organize”, I strongly say that the only weapon available for the
Marginalized communities to come out of the false consciousness is EDUCATION.
The story uses a lot of
Allegory/Metaphoric, to represents the Caste violence and story of the oppressor
and oppressed uses an eagle poaches on chick which is raised by the lower
strata of society. Marginalized communities caged life can draw from the portrayal of tied legs of the Donkey, as caste ties the people freedom and
access to opportunities.
The movie also shows how Dalits are
living in the false consciousness resists change and strive to maintain
the status quo, another hand shows how the upper caste and government
bodies try to maintain the dominance of Dalits and maintain their
hegemony(Hannah ardent concept). But the younger generation of the village
tried to change, that possible only when they are out of false consciousness
and try to change their status quo through the revolt against the dominant. The
younger generations are become conscious because of Education.
I can represent these through Plato’s
concept of “Allegory of the Cave”, the
older generations see lives in cave and
believes that whatever seems to them is real and they are tied with the caste
dominance (donkey legs tied ) and they don’t want change. But the Karnan
character, which is educated, is out of the cave and wants to educate the Dalit
people and strive for equality, freedom and liberty.
The overall story is about the 3R’s
Resists, Rises and Revolts; it is the reality of the war between the power and
powerless people, it is the story of EV Ramaswamy’s self-respect movement, a tale
of the struggle between the oppressed and oppressor.
Well written!
